Although some components may look similar, parts are not automatically interchangeable between different Multipoint models. Heating elements, thermostats, valves, electrical covers and safety components can vary according to the appliance capacity, orientation and manufacturing generation.

How to Identify the Correct Multipoint Spare Part

Begin by checking the appliance data label. Before selecting a replacement part, record:

• The complete Multipoint model name
• The storage capacity or power rating
• Whether the heater is stored or instantaneous
• Whether the appliance is vertical or horizontal
• The serial number and approximate age
• The part number on the existing component
• Any voltage, wattage or pressure rating shown

The term “Multipoint” covers several substantially different appliances. A component designed for a 10-litre or 15-litre stored-water heater will not necessarily fit a 30-litre, 50-litre, 80-litre or 100-litre model.

Multipoint Thermostats and Thermal Cut-Outs

Thermostats regulate the stored-water temperature, while thermal cut-outs provide protection if the appliance overheats. Depending on the model, these functions may be combined within one assembly or supplied as separate components.

A Multipoint heater that is not heating does not automatically require a new thermostat. Similar symptoms can be caused by the electrical supply, heating element, safety cut-out, wiring or terminal connections.

Some thermostat and cut-out assemblies are capacity-specific. Always confirm the complete Multipoint model and original part number before choosing a replacement.

Pressure, Expansion and Safety Components

Stored Multipoint water heaters rely on correctly specified water-control and safety components. These can include pressure-reducing valves, expansion relief valves, temperature and pressure relief valves, expansion vessels, tundishes and installation kits.

Each valve has a particular pressure setting and function. A component should never be selected solely because its connections or appearance resemble the original.

Water passing through a tundish or discharge pipe can indicate excessive pressure, an expansion problem, overheating or a faulty safety valve. Never block or cap a discharge route. The system should be inspected and repaired by a suitably competent professional.

Covers, Brackets and Electrical Service Parts

Genuine service components are available for selected Multipoint and Multipoint Eco models, including terminal covers, thermostat knobs, electrical covers, mounting brackets, indicator lights, power cables and fixings.

Cover sizes can vary according to the appliance capacity and configuration. A small cover designed for a 30-litre or 50-litre model may not fit an 80-litre or 100-litre heater.

Replacement covers and fixings should be fitted securely before the appliance is returned to service. Never operate the water heater with live electrical components exposed.

Stored and Instantaneous Multipoint Models

It is important to distinguish between stored Multipoint water heaters and Multipoint Instantaneous water heaters.

Stored models heat and retain a fixed volume of water inside a vessel. Their components can include immersion elements, thermostats, expansion vessels, pressure valves and terminal covers.

Instantaneous models heat water as it passes through the appliance. Compatible parts can include high-powered 7kW or 9kW heat exchangers and model-specific electrical indicators.

Parts for stored and instantaneous Multipoint heaters are not interchangeable. Confirm the appliance type and electrical rating before ordering.

Repairing or Replacing a Multipoint Water Heater

Many Multipoint faults can be repaired economically when the appliance vessel and casing remain in good condition. Elements, thermostats, valves, covers and expansion components can often be replaced individually.

A complete replacement may be more practical when:

• The water container is leaking or badly corroded
• Several major components have failed

• The appliance has extensive limescale damage
