Multipoint Pack U2 Expansion Vessel and Valve Kit

The Heatrae Sadia 95970351 Pack U2 Expansion Kit is a genuine installation accessory for compatible Multipoint 10 and 15 litre unvented water heaters. It provides a safe means of accommodating the increased water volume created as the stored water heats and expands.

Pack U2 is required where thermal expansion cannot be accommodated within the incoming cold water main, such as when a check valve, pressure-reducing valve or another fitting prevents expanded water from passing back into the supply.

What Is Included in Pack U2?

• 2 litre expansion vessel
• Non-return/check valve
• 6 bar expansion relief valve

The expansion vessel absorbs the additional water volume produced during normal heating. The check valve ensures that the expansion is directed into the vessel and prevents hot water flowing back into the cold supply. The 6 bar expansion relief valve provides an additional safety discharge route if system pressure rises above its operating setting.

When Is an Expansion Kit Required?

The Pack U2 kit is required when the installation cannot safely accommodate expansion through the cold water supply pipework. This may apply where:

• A check or non-return valve is fitted in the incoming supply
• A pressure-reducing valve prevents expansion into the cold main
• A stop valve or similar fitting prevents reverse expansion
• Expanded hot water could enter a branch serving a cold outlet
• The available cold pipe length does not meet the heater manufacturer’s requirements
• The static mains pressure exceeds 4.1 bar

If the static incoming water pressure exceeds 4.1 bar, the manufacturer’s appropriate pressure-reducing valve pack will also be required. The exact accessory arrangement must be selected from the installation diagrams supplied with the water heater.

• Compatible Multipoint II installations specifying Pack U2

This kit is not automatically suitable for every Multipoint model. Larger Multipoint and Multipoint Eco heaters may use a different expansion vessel, inlet control or safety-valve arrangement. Check the heater model and installation instructions before ordering.

Technical Specification

Installation Information

Pack U2 must be installed on the cold inlet side and close to the water heater, following the sequence and orientation shown in the manufacturer’s installation instructions. The expansion relief valve must be connected to correctly sized discharge pipework terminating in a safe and visible location.

This kit forms part of the safety arrangement for an unvented water heater. Installation, commissioning and pressure checks must be completed by a suitably qualified person in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable regulations.
